How to Start a Morning Wellness Ritual

We all have some kind of morning ritual. Wake up, make coffee, brush your teeth, get dressed, drive to work, etc. Taking the time to intentionally plan out your morning though, can have amazing benefits that last throughout the day. Rushing through the morning in a groggy haze isn’t ideal, so incorporating wellness at the start of your day can have a huge impact.

Dr. Paul Drago is a health and wellness specialist that believes in taking a holistic approach which includes a balance of nutrition, fitness, and mental health care. Wellness has many different facets to it, including emotional, occupational, physical, intellectual, financial, social, spiritual, and environmental factors.

When thinking about how you want to construct your morning routine, keep these different factors in mind. Is there any one in particular that you want to focus on at this point in your life? Whatever it is, make sure to carve out time in the morning to focus on that aspect of wellness. Start with simple tasks that would be easy to include in your routine. Here are some examples:

  • For physical wellness, you could start by committing to going on a short walk every morning.
  • For emotional wellness, write in your journal for ten minutes in the morning.
  • If you want to nurture your financial wellness, you could spend some time going over your bank statements and looking at your budget.
  • If you are a spiritual person, you could devote a few minutes in the morning to prayer, setting your intentions for the day, or engaging in some kind of spiritual practice.
  • You may also want to spend some time reading in the morning to nurture your intellectual wellness.
